Am I Responsible for My Life? Or are ‘they’ doing it to me?

  1. You intended to be where you are.
  2. Where you go from here is your choice.
  3. There are no exceptions to the above

Your life turned out exactly as you planned.

Is it time to change the plan? And if it is, how do you do that?

In the past, we chose what was most familiar, pleased others or offered the least resistance. We took the easy way. Except the results we got were anything but easy to live with. Now is the time to change all that.

So we begin with:

1. ATTENTION: PAYING ATTENTION IS THE FIRST STEP

You have to be fully present to notice what is going on in your life. You can only change what you are aware of.

2. INTENTION: YOUR LIFE IS THE OUTCOME OF YOUR INTENTIONS

Your current life is the direct result of all your intentions to date. And your life from here on in will be the result of all your intentions from now on. Do you get why it might be important to pay attention to your intentions?

3. THOUGHT: YOUR THOUGHTS MATTER

Your thoughts create matter. If followed by action.

4. ACTION: YOUR LIFE IS THE DIRECT RESULT OF YOUR ACTIONS

What action we take, which includes taking no action by the way, is entirely dependent on what we pay attention to, the intention we have, and the thoughts that follow.

In order to have complete choice, some would say complete control, we must take full responsibility.

The Ocean of Life

October 10, 2007 by thejoyofchange

I’ve been in the Atlantic ocean every morning at 6am for 3 days now. It’s a real metaphor for life. It picks you up, tosses you around and sometimes sets you down gently and other times it takes your feet out from under you and heads for the “deep end”. And then it does it all over again, sometimes taking you toward where you want to go and sometimes not. Or so it seems anyway. In the end, you wind up on shore, feet on the ground, more or less where you started.

And life is just like that. Except we choose where and when to enter the ocean, how much we really want to be changed by our experience and where to go from here.

Sure sometimes the ‘ocean’ comes and gets us, like in a hurricane or perfect storm, and then we get to deal with the hand we are dealt. How we experience what we went through can seem like it is the result of what happened, but really it’s only the result of how we think and feel about what happened.

And then when we project those thought and feelings into the future, we recreate our past experience. Not a very useful, but pretty common practice.

So, if we must do that projection thing, it’s a lot more useful to project positives than negatives ’cause that creates our reality. And most of the time this is all done unconsciously.

I’m thinking about changing the name of this blog to Beyond All Fear.

Any thoughts?
